SkillMil: Empowering veterans with meaningful employment opportunities through an intuitive job matching platform.
Problem/Goal:
Veterans:
- Highly skilled, trained professionals with advanced education
- Approximately 600K veterans will leave the service in the next two years
- Over 500,000 of the current enlisted forces are available for part-time jobs or projects
- The veteran skills market offers millions of trained and experienced applicants with skills that commercial companies seek
Employers:
- Employers struggle to effectively identify, communicate with, and gain access to transitioning and unemployed service members who have the skills they seek
- Corporate and military terminology do not align, creating a communication gap between veteran skills and commercial job descriptions
Research:
The Impact of Missed Opportunities
- Approximately 600K veterans will leave the service in the next two years
- Veterans bring highly valuable skills, training, and education

Why Is It Challenging?
- Employers have limited understanding of transferable veteran skills and competencies
- Misalignment between applicant competencies and commercial job descriptions
- Missed opportunities to hire quality individuals due to knowledge gaps
- Fragmented employment sites create a disjointed experience
- Reliance on resumes results in inadequate alignment of competencies and skills
- Limited understanding of how military experience translates to business value

I designed both the employer and veteran application flows along with a reusable component design system library. The platform enables users to accept/reject matches, initiate conversations, and provide feedback about their experience.
